Abstract

Pressure ulcer is defined as localized injury to the skin and/or underlying tissue, usually over a bony prominence, as a result of pressure alone or in combination with shear. Many interventions has been designed to prevent pressure ulcer. Today, pressure-relieving support surfaces are widely used in the daily practice of pressure ulcer prevention for redistributing pressure, reducing shearing forces and controlling the local microclimate. In the literature, several studies described the efficacy of viscoelastic foam as support surface in the prevention of pressure ulcer.
